Most of the bugs found in earlier versions appear to have been fixed. It would be nice if the app would tell you how your solve times stack up against other users.

All right, I get it. The traditional newspaper business model is dying, and even the mighty New York Times needs to scramble for nickels and dimes (or, for Canadians, $50 a year). But its a big Internet, and theres a lot out there. We cant be paying for every little corner without going broke. You need a new way of looking at your business. I enjoyed the preview period, but the app is now gone from my iPad.
Be prepared to spend mega bucks to start playing
Trying to create an account but keeps saying not a valid password or check spelling. Spelling is the same for both fields and perhaps, for issues of not valid, no special characters!? Who knows. I just want to play not waste my time creating yet another account with yet another password. Seriously, how important do you think you are?
The price has increased from $17 (CA) in 2013 (app handled by Magmic) to $40 in 2014 (app now run by NYT) and then $46 in 2015. The quality of the app and the content has not increased 170% over that time. Ugh. Feel gouged.
I use the app on a daily basis and purchased a subscription for access to more puzzles. I am greatly enjoying them, but have had some issues wherein a square required a symbol not provided by the in-app keyboard. Also, some puzzle information is occasionally omitted (like a recent puzzle that had four black squares that represented 2 absent letters for the surrounding clues; I had to google to find that out). I also wish that Family Sharing were applicable for the app. Currently, the only way to share a NYT Crossword subscription is by paying almost $9/week for their All Digital Access, which includes access to digital news articles, and that allows you to share with ONE family member. Its sad that the more economical option is purchasing the crossword app subscription for each family member.
The beginning of the week it is easy, but by the end of the week I am tearing my hair out.
Ive bought a number of puzzle packs, but when I went to get a new one a week ago, the price had gone from $2.50 to $5.50! For only 20 puzzles?! Plus, the last one I bought included 5 (25%) that Id already solved in previous packs Id purchased. Huge rip-off. Too bad b/c its a well-designed app.
The app now in my opinion works pretty well, so thats nice, but the subscription cost is too high so I didnt renew. Today my subscription expired, and of course no new puzzles, no problem. But all the old ones, many of which I hadnt done yet, are gone too! Maybe Im being unreasonable, but to me that seems unfair. I assumed those puzzles would remain on my device. When my magazine subscriptions expire the issues Ive bought dont disappear. Shouldnt crosswords follow the same model?
DO NOT SUBSCRIBE! You dont know when theyll change the rules again. I paid for a yearly subscription and the cost went up about 500%! Im assuming that, since the old newspaper model is dying, the entire cost of running the New York Times is being passed directly on to crossword subscribers. Get out your wallets, guys!
Nicely made app, but... Very annoying how it takes over the sound. Listening to music while doing the crossword is a delight. Also, the subscriptions are a bit too expensive.
I purchased a one-year subscription in November and really loved the daily puzzles. In February the app stopped loading new puzzles, I contacted the support and received a cut-and-paste response for an unrelated problem. After follow-up email requests for help I finally gave up. Happily Visa refunded the balance of my year subscription.
I was a happy subscriber when the prices were reasonable. Around $9.99 for 6 months, I believe. Now they have jumped to $9.99 per month! $55 for the year. I understand if an increase is necessary, but keep it within the realm of possibility, or increase gradually. My gym membership is only $3 more per month.
Was a yearly subscriber and would like to be again. But I just cannot stomach $55. Like others have pointed out - its become far too expensive in the Canadian store.
This was a great app but it has become way too pricey. $55!!!! You have got to be kidding me! Forget it. Ill find something else to do to pass the time. Too bad. This was my favourite app and I played it for several years.
Love these puzzles and loved doing them on the app but $55 a year $9 a month. Cmon. Netflix costs $8.99. Pricing is prohibitive for me. On to the next one.
I liked it when it was free. I found 4x4 Crossword and its a lot better, plus its free
But seriously, $55.00 plus in app purchases? Ill find better things to do with my time. Im not renewing!!!!
Needed to delete older version to prevent crashing
I just installed todays update, and all the app does now is crash‼️ Maybe you could beta-test the updates before you release them
